Great Product!Sunday, February 27, 2005
This is a must have! It really enhances the color of the eye shadows that I put on top of the touch base. It eliminates creasing and fading. I use the canvas color and it works well with all my eye shadows.
Can't live without it!Monday, January 10, 2005
I love this product. i ahve never had any trouble with it drying out, but I understand that Clinique is reformulating it to address this issue. I have used Touch Base for years and never had an ounce of trouble with it. It works great to keep my shadow on throughout the day. I never need to touch up my eye makeup. This is also waaay easier to apply versus the stick bases that other companies sell.

Great Product but Needs a Packaging UpdateThursday, November 04, 2004
Clinque's Touch Base is a great eye makeup product that can be used multiple ways for different effects. Touch Base is a creamy shadow that can be worn alone or all over the lid as a eye shadow base for your powder eye shadows. It goes on creamy in texture and sets to a powder finish. As a base, it does an excellent job of keeping your shadows from fading or creasing and will even help them last longer. It does its job as a base better than nearly any other product I've tried (and I've tried more than a few.) If you have a tendency to crease and or fade, this product is a must. As a bonus, any powder color applied on top will be more intense in both color and look than it would applied to a bare eye.
Application is very simple; a clean fingertip is all you need! If you're a huge brush fan, which Clinique doesn't have, try picking up Laura Mercier's `Creme Eye shadow' brush. It was designed for creamy/liquid eye shadows and will work nicely for this purchase.
The package design of this product, Clinique has updated many Touch Base colors but hasn't had a package update since its debut, leaves much to be desired and is Touch Base's only downfall. There is a tendency for Touch Base to dry out -- rather quickly, too, I might add. (Just ask any Clinique consultant who has exchanged many a new Touch Base for a customer's dry one and also frequently replaces Touch Base testers due to this tendancy.) This problem occurs when product from the pan gets on and around the white rim and keeps the lid from snapping air tight. Air can then get in and suddenly you're left with a dry cake! This can be easily avoided by making sure the rim stays clean and free of product. The white rim is very small and encircles the makeup product itself. It must come into direct contact with the much smaller green rim encircling the mirror in the lid. After making sure the rim stays clean, close the lid till you hear a satisfying snap! I still highly recommend this product and I wouldn't let the packaging be a detractor from purchase. As long as you're armed with the previous information, you'll be fine.
As with any eye makeup product, application is made easier when applied after a small amount of eye cream is patted in around the orbital bone -- that's the hard part of the eye, not the soft fleshy lid covering your eyeball. Since this product is all about staying power, it will need to be removed with an eye makeup remover designed for long wearing eye makeup removal.
Color Notes:
Buff Lighting: More golden in color than light flesh, this color has a noticeable shimmer both in the packaging and on the eyes.
Pink lighting: Same as Buff Lighting but pale pink in color.
Peach Lighting: Same as above but peach in color.
Canvas: A light flesh-toned color without any form of shine (matte). The perfect all-purpose color. This is Clinique's most popular Touch Base color and can be worn by nearly everyone of light to medium skin tone.
Nude Rose: Without shine (matte) this is a light to medium shade of somewhat fleshy but still distinctively pink shade. This is their second most popular color.
Petal Shimmer: A pink color with a much softer shine than that of Pink lighting.
Silver Lighting: A light steel gray color with noticeable shimmer in both the packaging and on the eyes.
Eyelight: Has no color but provides the eyes with a pretty sparkle. This color is discontinued at the Clinique counter.
Moon Lighting: A pale lavender color with a very soft shine. Great for green or hazel eyes.
